Live streaming apps Periscope and Meerkat tap into the desire of people to expose themselves and claim their five seconds of fame.
But where the selfie-movement, video blogging and the previous lifecasting movement are focused on the self, Periscope and Meerkat take a different route and are more about what you see.
They facilitate others to experience what you experience. Borrow someone else’s eyes, rather than being told what to see (video blogging) or viewing and listening to a monologue (life casting).
Brands such as Adidas already used Periscope to live stream the moment that footballer James Rodriguez signed up to a new sponsorship deal which is only one of many examples of the diversity of live casting to raise awareness and create buzz.
