The ETC Bar Camp is divided into four big parts: content, social, mobile and big data. Each of these parts will be lead by an expert but what is being discussed and covered in the session is really down to what eMN members would like to see covered. The experts will answer any questions, steer discussions and make sure that experiences are shared within the group and that issues and challenges are explained, tackled and solutions are found.
We would like to invite all members of the ETC e-Marketing Intelligence Group to take part in this year's Summer Bar Camp, which ETC is offering completely free of charge as part of the membership scheme.
The members of the ETC e-Marketing Intelligence Group (eMN) comprise the Online Marketing Managers of the 33 National Tourist Offices (NTOs) who are members of ETC. The eMN is an active forum for the sharing of information and best practice in the use of digital media by NTOs and produces the ETC Digital Portal.
- Chairman: Bernardo Caballero (Spain)
- Vice-Chairpersons: Emese Kutvolgyi (Hungary)
- Co-ordinator: Teodora Marinska (ETC)
The Bar Camp provides open workshops that are facilitated by an expert in the field. Four areas in digital were identified beforehand by ETC members that will each be lead by an expert in the field. The areas include content, social, mobile and big data. It is in the hand of ETC members to define the most pressing issues that the expert will pick up on the day. Comments can be submitted in the programmes section of the website. These will be collected and then discussed between the expert and all attendees on the day.
All sessions will be supported by both the expert’s knowledge and expertise, along with best practice examples and experiences from within the ETC eMN group members. We will coordinate and prepare topics that were submitted by ETC members and on the day, ETC members can still post questions on dedicated topic boards. All experts will synthesise the issues into a channeled discussion and link between the different areas within the topic.
The open, informal and interactive setting of a Bar Camp will enable members to share experiences with one another in the different areas. Issues or open questions will be discussed, and solutions and recommendations can be given. The goal is for the experts to come prepared to answer any questions, and to steer and facilitate the discussion, in order to get everyone talking and sharing good and bad experiences that eMN members had in the 4 areas of digital.
10:00Opening and welcome
This session will be facilitated by an expert and any questions, issues or challenges you would like to have discussed can be submitted beforehand and will be covered on the day. Content has evolved and is now moving more and more towards user generated content that taps into unique experiences. Approaching content strategies that adapts to different markets and platforms is crucial. Working with bloggers, key influencers and adapting content strategies to both social and mobile contexts is something destinations are thinking about. All this will be discussed during the content session.
This session will be facilitated by an expert and any questions, issues or challenges you would like to have discussed can be submitted beforehand and will be covered on the day. How should NTOs react to changes in the way in which travellers are using social media and which channels to use? Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter and many other channels will be discussed, best practice examples shown and experiences between eMN members will be shared.
This session will be facilitated by Zornitza and any questions, issues or challenges you would like to have discussed can be submitted beforehand and will be covered on the day. How should destinations approach a mobile strategy when starting and how can a destination's optimise its mobile strategy? Zornitza will give insights into mobile trends, the changing mobile consumer behaviour of travellers in the destination and will answer any questions relating to mobile that eMN members may have. Throughout the mobile session, best practice examples will be shown and experiences around mobile shared between the eMN members.
This session will be facilitated by an expert and any questions, issues or challenges you would like to see discussed can be submitted beforehand and will be covered on the day. Big data is one of the topics of 2014 and destinations are now more and more thinking about how data can be collected, analysed and the insights from that used in the day to day activities as well as long term strategic planning of NTOs.
Wrap up of the day and further information about future activities specifically for the eMN group.

The GNTB has agreed a partnership with the Communications Museum in Frankfurt, where we will be hosting the Bar Camp. The museum is a very fitting setting for this event and confronts questions such as 'How does communication work?' and 'What methods and paths are available to it?' and the challenges of a constantly transforming information-based society.
In 1990, the museum made a move into a transparent and open new building that invites journeys of discovery on four floors. Stories to be astonished by and to experience, technology to interact with and comprehend – in this way the permanent exhibition “Media Tells Story(ies)” presents the richness of communication.
How to get here?
From Frankfurt Central Station: 15 min. walk
The host destination for the Summer Bar Camp 2014 is the German National Tourist Board (GNTB). We are very proud to have them supporting this event and are looking forward to welcoming all ETC members to Germany.
The GNTB plays an important role in the promotion of Germany as a travel destination on the international market. Its activities include the development of new marketing strategies and concepts based on specific themes, events and attractions and also bringing together and optimising the diverse marketing activities of partners in the German travel industry. It also takes an active role in the form of far-ranging sales activities in new growth markets. In this respect, the GNTB relies on its close collaboration with the German travel industry, partners from commerce and trade associations.
The ETC Summer Bar Camp is a brand new initiative being put on exclusively for ETC members. Its aim is to bring together the E-Marketing Network in an informal and relaxed environment to discuss the key issues and opportunities facing marketing teams today.
The first Bar Camp will focus on four areas Content, Social, Mobile and Big Data where ETC Members will be invited to propose what they'd like to see tackled and shared and the Digital Tourism Think Tank's team of experts will help members understand, navigate and make sense of the ever changing digital landscape. Whether just starting out or maturing your mobile strategy, every member will have something unique to share and to walk away with.
We are currently working on the programme for this one day event. Should you have any requests or suggestions in terms of speakers or topic, please do let us know.
