Throughout the year, across the many DMOs we have worked with and fantastic projects we have highlighted, it’s clear that digitalisation and collaboration are key drivers for future growth and ensuring the sustainability of a destination. Both contribute to the success of a destination’s offer and ultimately, maximise the visitor experience as much as possible.

During this section at #DTTTGlobal, we were joined by The Federation of Breton Tourist Offices about digitising the DMO, Visit Austurland on developing a Destination Management Plan, and The Netherlands Board of Tourism and its Perspective 2030 Strategy. All have based their destination strategy on these factors, sharing insights on what they have been working on and key successes and challenges along the way.

Here are 5 key takeaways on Digitalisation and Collaboration:

Tourism is something that concerns everyone in the destination, so destination-wide collaboration is vital to ensure sustainable growth.

Sustainable growth and collaboration go hand in hand, you cannot be sustainable without participation and collaboration with all parties; visitors, industry and the local community.

It's crucial to communicate data insights and statistics to stakeholders to ensure they are aware of the benefits.

Marketing is such an important part of destination management but DMOs cannot just market. DMOs facilitate the plan and successfully connect all the parties. It's important to work with a long-term vision and ensure all stakeholders know the benefit.

Destination marketing is experiencing a paradigm shift, from benefitting the tourism industry to shared benefits and interests, and from promotion to development and management.
