In September, just a few weeks from now, we will launch our new #DTTT Trends platform that is going back to how we started with the Think Tank. In 2012, we launched the Think Tank by bringing together passionate marketers and digital teams at our first ever Digital Tourism Innovation Campus in Yahoo’s office in Barcelona. The idea was simple, we had identified some great speakers and cases studies to share some insights about their campaigns, strategies and approaches - and it truly inspired our community.
In March 2013, after our first event, we launched the website, featuring a hand full of fresh of the press case studies powered by full HD video interviews. This was something quite unique at that time, even though it seems strange now that nobody else in the industry was sharing destination video interviews and case studies. There was great demand among destinations to learn which destinations could be considered a good example for things such as trip planning tools, website, social media presences, content and mobile, down to granular topics.
Having built good relationships with destinations and monitoring the space continuously, we have always been a go-to-source for destinations to understand best practices and innovative examples in the digital space. Over the years, we have built a huge knowledge and database of best practice examples which we are often sharing as part of workshops, conferences or client work. However, so far, only few of these best practice examples have been featured as part of our case study series throughout the year.
So I am pleased to say that from September onwards, we will launch our new #DTTT Trends platform as a home for best practice examples from a wide range of national tourist boards, regions and cities. We have completely revamped our Trends section, focusing on:
- Trends that are game changers for destinations such as drones, VR, influencer marketing…
- Communities providing a deep dive into destination approaches on every social media channel
- Content exploring how destinations are leveraging the multitude of content trends
- Websites looking at the best of the best among destination websites and the array of functionalities
In true Think Tank style, we are not just including information about each best practice example, we are going full on visual, enabling you to understand and see where things are going in the destination landscape. Each section within the new #DTTT Trends has a quick recap video about the section and each best practice example is supported by either an official campaign or destination video illustrating the example or a video walkthrough, where one of our experts is talking you through the example, outlining what is standing out, what you can learn from the example and where there are opportunities for your destination.
What can you get out of the platform?
For starters, the #DTTT Trends platform is not a statistics go to source for destination marketers but a valuable tool to explore what other destinations are doing, what you can learn from other destination’s approaches and for you to understand what makes some of the examples stand out. We are committed to continue adding the latest best practice examples and cases, ensuring we are building a best practice and trends database that you can access whenever you need to.
Why should you join the launchpad?
So here is the twist - we truly believe in the value of understanding best practices, being inspired by different examples and learning about the latest opportunities for your destination. You are right in thinking that this does come at a cost to us, as we are continuing to build the #DTTT Trends. However, our Launchpad community of subscribers to our content is continuing to grow and we are pleased to provide access to the #DTTT Trends to all our subscribers. For you as a destination marketer, access to the launchpad and trends is an ideal way of staying ahead of other destinations, learning about the latest best practices and understanding how you can leverage the many opportunities that we identify as part of the #Trends content.
What is the next step for #DTTT Trends?
Of course, we are not just stopping at launching the #DTTT Trends - we are adding a heap of additional examples, sending you the latest best practice examples through each month. This will keep you up to date about the latest developments in destination marketing, helping you to stay ahead of others. We are also adding Downloads and material in line with our #DTTT Trends topics and section that can support your day to day strategic and tactical work.
The #DTTT Trends will officially launch on Wednesday 14th September for our current subscribers and for those interested in joining our Launchpad subscription, make sure to speak to us, to get an exclusive sneak peak of the new #DTTT Trends platform and to learn more about our Launchpad subscription.
