TripAdvisor announced a total of 210 booking engines from 48 countries worldwide signed up to their new platform TripAdvisor Connect. Already, the platform is considered to be a game changer for the tourism industry. The platform scheduled to be launched later in 2013 already contains more than 130,000 hotels and B&Bs worldwide as a number of booking engines committed to it. What does this new platform mean for consumers? Through TripAdvisor Connect, consumers can then access hotel price comparison on TripAdvisor (Hotelmarketing 2013).

WHAT ARE PARTNERS GETTING?

Premium partners of TripAdvisor committed to provide hotels with:

  • TripAdvisor Connect: empowering hotels to drive incremental bookings
  • Review Express: Enabling hotels to get more traveller reviews for free
  • ROI Tracking: Giving hotels reporting on their success on the platform

THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS

TripAdvisor are offering search engines to sign up to the new platform which means they would enable a large amount of independent accommodation owners to generate new bookings through TripAdvisor’s Connect platform. According to news from Hotelsmarketing, booking engines signed up to the new platform can offer their clients a tiered certification process:

  • TripAdvisor Connect: Hotels and B&Bs can bid for TripAdvisor meta search traffic
  • TripAdvisor Connect Plus: Hotels and B&Bs can bid for TripAdvisor meta search traffic and automate review collection efforts using TripAdvisor’s Review Express service, which will be integrated into the platform
  • TripAdvisor Connect Premium: Hotels and B&Bs can bid for traffic, automate review collection and track the results of their activity to measure their return on investment

So far, around 90% of the 210 booking engines actually signed up to become a TripAdvisor Connect Premium partner. Only 22 booking engines are just partners. This reflects a trend towards booking engines aiming to get the full range of benefits for their clients. In upcoming weeks and months, it will be interesting to see how other booking engines signing up to the platform will respond to the different certifications. At the moment, many more are expected to sign up to become premium partners. To find about the individual partners of TripAdvisor Connect, click here.
