What are you doing on a day-to-day basis to champion inclusion in the industry?

Virginie champions inclusion daily by fostering diversity in decision-making and empowering underrepresented groups. Meaning that on a day to day, she collaborates with destinations across Canada, both small and large, to implement inclusive and sustainable policies and practices, ensuring equal opportunities for all in the tourism sector, more specifically in sustainable business events.

Can you tell us about a project you have worked on or led?

Virginie exemplifies the epitome of leadership and innovation in the tourism sector, making her an ideal candidate for the Women in Tourism Award. Her remarkable achievements in sustainability, industry collaboration, and brand performance have not only elevated Canada's standing as a premier tourism destination but have also set a new standard for excellence within the global tourism community.

As a trailblazer in sustainability initiatives, Virginie spearheaded the creation of Canada's first-ever Sustainability Plan for Business Events, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible tourism practices. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, as she successfully rallied over 20 partners to adopt sustainability measurement through the Global Destination Sustainability Index, positioning Canada as a leader in sustainable tourism on the world stage.

Virginie's collaborative approach has been instrumental in fostering strong partnerships with City Destination Management Organizations (DMOs), event venues, and tourism operators, resulting in a unified platform that showcases Canada's diverse offerings to international visitors. By presenting a cohesive narrative at trade marketplaces and through national marketing efforts, she has significantly enhanced Canada's visibility and attractiveness as a tourism destination, ultimately driving economic growth and prosperity.  Furthermore, Virginie's strategic acumen has led to the development of a unique go-to-market strategy that aligns with Canada's future economic sectors. Through strategic media partnerships with globally recognized entities like The Economist and Financial Times, she has effectively positioned Canada as a top destination for business events, highlighting key growth sectors and opportunities for investment.

Virginie's impact extends beyond her professional achievements; she serves as an inspiration to women in the tourism industry, embodying the values of leadership, innovation, and inclusivity.
