Rapid Ideation 1: Exploring Emerging Technologies

During this workshop, we explore how different technologies can help destinations transform passive experiences into interactive ones.

The emergence of immersive technologies has transformed tourism. A recent announcement of creating Metaverse by the Meta company has once again sparked interest in regenerating tourism and travel with a highly immersive, interactive, and engaging experience. On the one hand, the market value for immersive technologies is attractive. However, on the other hand, extensive variety of digital technologies, devices and toolkits means that the cost of the immersive digitalisation processes could substantially vary. So why not explore the economic value of becoming immersive destinations and evaluate the cost efficiency of the possibilities?

In this rapid ideation session, we will explore immersive technologies from an economic point of view. This workshop centres on the impact of digitally enhanced tourism on destination economy and competitiveness. We will measure the importance and feasibility of joining the immersive worlds based on predefined foundation concepts at the centre of immersive technologies as well as destination specific concerns proposed by the participants.
