Digital Ireland – Connecting our People, Securing our Future

Policy Guidelines

Published by the Irish Government in February 2026, this is Ireland's updated National Digital and Artificial Intelligence Strategy, setting out the government's ambition to 2030. The strategy was developed under the Department of the Taoiseach and reflects a whole-of-government commitment to maintaining Ireland's position as a digital and AI leader in an increasingly competitive global environment.

The strategy is built around five strategic ambitions: Apply, Grow, Invest, Lead and Empower. It includes 20 high-level objectives and 90 specific deliverables spanning public services, enterprise, digital and AI infrastructure, cyber security, digital regulation, online safety and skills and talent.

Key commitments include digitalising 100% of key public services by 2030, establishing a new AI Office of Ireland as the central coordinating authority for implementing the EU AI Act, creating an Observatory for Business AI Readiness, and investing in supercomputing and high-performance computing infrastructure. The strategy also addresses online safety for children and Ireland's role as a regulatory hub for EU digital policy.

For destination organisations and DMOs in Ireland, this strategy shapes the digital and AI environment within which they operate, from broadband investment and digital skills initiatives to AI regulation and national platform governance. It also serves as a benchmark for what national-level digital and AI strategy looks like in 2026.

Contents:

  • Apply: AI and digital solutions for public services
  • Grow: Digital economy and enterprise competitiveness
  • Invest: Digital and AI infrastructure
  • Lead: Digital regulation and Ireland's international role
  • Empower: Skills, talent and online safety
