To complete this activity, you'll need to gather your Diverse Empowered Team and lead a workshop to generate a conversation around your destination's development. Identify what each stakeholder around the table thinks the destination looks like in the present, and reflect on what each one would like it to look like in the future. Also ideate on what are the obstacles, motivations and pressures to act upon the transformation of the destination. By the end of the activity, you should be able to frame the sustainability journey.

1. Your "Sustainability Champions"

‍

Start by getting the conversation going with all the members of your Diverse Empowered Team and allow each of them to choose a colour so you know who's adds what throughout the activity, as this will allow you to have an overview of the different things that are important to each group of stakeholders.

‍

Each of the participants should add sticky notes with the main reasons why they believe they are part of the team and with the reasons they believe they can help lead the sustainable transformation of the destination.

‍

2. Where Did You Start The Journey?

‍

Now ideate on where your destination's journey towards sustainability started. Analysing when it started, what has been achieved since then and how these things have been achieved while understanding the different impacts they have had on the destination stakeholders, will allow you to better lead the transformation.

‍

In addition, by being aware of where you stand at this moment in time, you'll be able to decide what needs to be prioritised on a first instance and what should be given attention at a later time.

3. Where Do You Hope It Will Take You?

‍

In this part of the activity, allow each of the members of the Diverse Empowered Team to identify what they would like to achieve at the end of this journey. Each individual should reflect on the outcomes they would like to achieve at a personal level, at an organisational/business level and the destination level.

‍

This will allow setting several clear goals that will help better establish the direction that the sustainable strategy should take, supporting you in the path towards leading sustainability in the destination.

Remember that each member of the team should use the colour they chose in the first part of the workshop!

4. Analyse The Pressures & Motivations

‍

Through this activity, we want to help you reflect on the current development of your destination and analyse the motivations and pressures that the different stakeholders that conform to it identify to act upon sustainability. This will allow you to gain a better understanding of your stakeholders’ experiences and mindset employing later taking into consideration all the different perspectives in the destination to develop a new strategy, shaped by their hopes of what they imagine the destination being like in the future.

5. Why Is It Critical To Undergo Transformation?

‍

It will be key to the development of your new sustainability strategy to understand the importance of transforming the destination. That is why this exercise will help you uncover what are the most pressing challenges that need to be solved but also help you, through ideation, to identify how they could be solved and who should be involved in the required actions.

6. Analyse The Obstacles In The Way

‍

Work is made up of basic activities that enable us to accomplish all types of tasks. The exercise will help you identify the obstacles that most impact your Diverse Empowered Team's ability to perform these basic activities that will allow you to lead the sustainable development of your destination.

You'll look into the learning, communication, innovation, making, evaluations, deciding, planning and acting dimensions.
