"I dream that blockchain technology make it possible for small providers to better reach the end users, thus leaving a far greater economic footprint in the local communities. Small scale business will make the industry much more accessible to women who don't have the same financial backing as men, especially in underdeveloped countries."

First of all, introduce yourself by telling us a bit about what you do, where you work and something that you enjoy doing in your spare time

I'm Co-founder and CEO at Kiattua. Open for just four months of the year, from the time of the midnight sun to the spectacle of the aurora borealis, you will find six, state-of-the-art sleeping tipis all looking toward the horizon. A two-day walk from the nearest village, Kiattua is immersed in origin. In its new incarnation, as we redefine off-grid luxury while honoring the past.

With a background as E-sales manager and within online marketing, my main task is to bring focus towards our little company at the remote, wild and untouched Greenland.

My family and I live in the Arctic wilderness all summer, and whenever I have a bit of spare time I often go hunting for reindeer, hand fishing for the Arctic char, or simply spending time hiking. My family and I love to travel and in 2019 my husband and I quit our jobs and took the kid out of school to spend one year together traveling around the world. Our favorite part was three months on the Jordan Trail.

Can you tell us about the latest project that you’ve worked on? Give some detail on why it was important for you or for the company and what you enjoyed about it?

We want to change the world one mind at a time. And we created Kiattua to attract the most influential minds to make the biggest impact possible.

We recently learned that one of our guest decided to change all the company's cars to electricity as a direct consequence of what he saw and what we talked about in Kiattua. We are talking about 4.000 cars - which in total reduces the carbon emission with 8.000 tons per, 10000 miles. I am super proud about that.

This summer I was the skipper on the boat that helped the extreme swimmer Lewis Pugh to cross the Ilulissat Icefiord, to highlight what is happening in the Arctic and in our vulnerable ecosystems around the globe.

If applicable, how have you seen the tourism industry change since you've been working in it and how do you feel it has improved for women?

In Greenland, we can feel that the interest to be immersed in nature is growing - visitors from around the world are no longer just coming to observe the nature in distance, but prefers to be in it, and to feel the silence when you are in connection with nature.

During the last 5 year I have seen an increase in women in traditional male jobs, as CEO's, wilderness guides, hunting guides, dogsled guides, skippers and decks men. And often we are doing even better. ;-D

Now thinking about the future, what would you want to see change or improve in the industry? How (if at all) would this improve the role of women in the industry?

I dream that blockchain technology make it possible for small providers to better reach the end users, thus leaving a far greater economic footprint in the local communities. Small scale business will make the industry much more accessible to women who don't have the same financial backing as men, especially in underdeveloped countries.

What things are in place at your workplace or in your every day that enable you to excel?

I own my world - that makes everything a lot easier :-)

The official IWD theme of 2022 is #BreakTheBias - If any, what biases within your role and/or industry would you want to be challenged?

Boys are told to be strong and girls to be cute. This lie is a heavy burden for both. One has to be more than he is and another less than she is.

What's the best piece of career advice you've received?

"Fake it to you make it" and "better done than perfect"

Would you have any recommendations for future female leaders in the industry?

Our brains are hot wired for true governance, which is the combination of logic and compassion. We are born to be the leaders of tomorrow.
