NECSTouR's annual activity report sets out the key milestones achieved by the network of European regional tourism destinations across 2025. The report is structured around NECSTouR's three strategic hubs: Climate, Data and Governance, and reflects a year of strong organisational and policy momentum.
Highlights include the award of four new EU-funded projects across all three hubs, including FACILITATE, LIFE TOUR4CLIMA, ReStart and SLOWTOUR, expanding the network's portfolio of European programmes. NECSTouR was also elected President of the Board of Affiliate Members of UN Tourism, giving the network a formal representative role for European regions at global level at a moment when the European Commission is developing a new Sustainable Tourism Strategy.
The Annual General Meeting in Milan focused on rethinking tourism communication, storytelling and conscious marketing, and saw the official launch of the new Governance Hub. In October, NECSTouR hosted a high-level Better Balanced Tourism event during the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels, bringing together MEPs, commissioners and destination managers to address intra-regional tourism flows. The year concluded with a Knowledge Day in Lanzarote marking the 30th anniversary of the Global Sustainable Tourism Charter, focused on how DMOs can move from planning to implementation on climate action.
For European DMOs, the report is a valuable snapshot of the policy and programme landscape shaping sustainable destination governance in 2025 and into 2026.
