We are halfway through day three at X Design Week but we still have many more exciting sessions lined up for you today. Do join us on XDW website to follow the programme and get the assets for design thinking sessions.

Here is a quick recap of what we've seen in the afternoon today so far:

We were joined by Nadia Aniff (Cape Town Tourism) and Johannes Brauckmann (Gamigo) for an inspiring panel discussion on game development processes and prospects of gamification in destination experiences. Nadia and Johanness shared diverse and interesting insights on games. Nadia, following her talk yesterday, shared Cape Town's journey on creating gamified and experiential campaign 'Find Your Freedom'.

Some key takeaways from this session include:

  1. Gamification and the gaming sector are evolving. Today, we have mobile phone games, consoles, and computer games that could adapt tourism and travel initiatives.
  2. The future will bring many more opportunities for gamification in tourism, from immersive campaigns to experiences.
  3. Game development is like a sandbox. One can bring many perspectives and talents into it and create astonishing results.

Later, we were joined by Josefine Carlsson and Tirsa Ramos-Pedersen from Tourism in Skåne who shared with us the initiatives and innovative processes behind design thinking and human-centric approaches to address sustainability issues at a national park. The project introduced a novel way to see challenges and ideate solutions. As Josefine and Tirsa shared, the success lies in:

  1. Thinking about innovation from the perspectives of doing something new, implementing it and adding value.
  2. Problem-solving should be dynamic and involve different backgrounds and interests.
  3. Locals show interest and commit to such initiatives because they share a common belief, and idea and show a willingness to improve the destination where they live.
